Where And How to Sign up For the College Board SAT Test

To sign up for the SAT test, students will need to approach the College Board, the non-profit making organization which administers the SAT test. The expense will be $45 if you live in the USA, and $71 if you live abroad. The test is deemed to be a sure fire indication of whether or not a student is ready to enter college, although there are many detractors who would doubt that. The SAT test is split into three distinct areas, math, critical reading and writing. These are the basic skills which the College Board believes are necessary to allow a student the opportunity of doing well in college.

The College Board has decided to schedule SAT test exams on Saturdays, in seven of the twelve months of the year. Students who have a religious reason for not wanting to take the test on a Saturday are given the option to appeal to be able to sit the test on another day, but the appeal can be rejected. It is the first Saturday in each of the seven months which is chosen as the date on which SAT exams take place.

SAT test dates are used for the taking of the Reasoning Test, or one of the SAT Subject Tests. The first spring date, which alternates between March and April, is the only exception to this. Only the reasoning test can be taken on this date. The dates are the same for students residing outside the USA, except that the alternating first spring date is not offered. If a student has taken more subject tests than they signed up for, they will not receive any results until the bill has been paid. No refunds are given to students who sign up for tests they do not complete.

SAT scores are given uniformly across the three separate disciplines. There is a maximum of 800 points. Much research has been carried out by researchers in colleges and universities across America to find the fairest way of scoring the tests. Special attention has been given to eliminating the bias which previously existed between people from different social and cultural backgrounds. The college system has acknowledged that such a bias did indeed exist, based on many thousands of papers which have been analysed.

The SAT test has gone through many changes and evolutions to reach the stage it is at today. It is probably the world's most studied, analyzed, and debated educational test. In its current form, it represents as realistic a method of judging a student's potential as can be devised at this stage. It is still leading the way, ahead of other competing test systems such as the ACT. If you are serious about wanting to break into the college system, you need to sign up for the SAT test.
